An advantage of living in Central Europe is that you can travel easily to different countries.
Because of this reason, I could visited Belgium again. I did not remember this country very well, and I am very happy to have had the chance to visit it again.
In this post, I am going to write about Antwerp.

AMBERES - ANTWERP

I thought that Bruges and Gant were the most beautiful places in Belgium. Maybe, that is why I liked so much Antwerp.
I believe that it is a very nice place to live in.  In one hand, the buildings are nice, and not as big as the ones we can see in other cities. And in the other hand, you have all the facilities you need: a wide range of restaurants, shops, cinemas...

¿Qué ver en Amberes? / What we can visit in Antwerp?

Grote Markt

Es la plaza principal de la ciudad. En ella podemos encontrar varios elementos importantes.
It is the main square of the city. There are located few important monuments.

El Ayuntamiento y la estatua de Brabo
The City hall and Brabo´s statue

The city got its name from a legend involving a mythical giantcalled Antigoon who lived near the Scheldt river. He exacted a toll from those crossing the river, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo, who cut off the giant's own hand and flung it into the river. Hence the name Antwerpen, from Dutch hand werpen, akin to Old English hand and wearpan (to throw), which has evolved to today's warp. (Wikipedia)

Casas gremiales
The Guild houses

La Catedral
Cathedral

It is located in the Grote Markt aswell. There are some paints of Rubens inside. Because of that, you have to pay to get in. As a friend had recomended me, I didn´t do it.

If you like souvenirs, the entrance to the souvenirs shop is free.

Groenplaats

It is right by the Grote Markt. Here is Ruben´s statue.

...y el hotel Hilton.
...and Hilton´s hotel.

Castillo y Río Schelde
Schelde´s River and Castle

In my opinion, it is one of the nicest area of the city.

Here you can see the statue I talked above.

Definitely, (if the weather is ok), it is a very nice place to have a walk. It has very good  city sights.

Museo de Bellas Artes -  Royal Museum of Fine Arts

Because of the bad weather, and as it was a little bit far away we couldn´t visited it. But it is recommended to do it, even just to have a look from outside.

Perhaps, it is not a very important highlight of the city. Despite of this, it is something curious to see. It is located in Oude Koornmarkt (next to the number 16 of this street).

The train station is also very curious.

Cosas típicas de Amberes
Typical from Antwerp

Diamond´s shops. Antwerp is the most important place of diamond´s commercialization.

Beer. The local beer is "De Koninck". Moreover, when you visit Antwerp, it is a very good opportunity to taste the wide range of beers there are in Belgium. I recommend: Chouffe, Hoegaarden, Leffe, Chimay, Kriek...

- Chocolates y Gofres.

- Chocolates and Waffles. You can get them in shops, and also in the food stands of the street. Furthermore, there are some specialized cafes like "Quetzal".

¿Dónde comer en Amberes?
¿Where to eat in Antwerp?

Os propongo tres opciones muy distintas.
I suggest three very different options.

In my opinion, it is the best choice. It is very close to the river area I talked above.

"Croquettes" + coulant de pollo con champiñores / Croquettes + chiken coulant with musrooms

Cazuela de pescados al horno / oven fish

Dame blanche

Bier Central

It is a very good place for a fast dinner and a beer. The advantage of this place is that it is close to the train station. Therefore, if you arrive late to the city, and you are hungry, it is a good option.

"Meet balls" + Chimay

Croque monsieur

It is a very curious place. It looks like a Church. Perfect for some beers.

¡Gracias por vuestros comentarios!
